Monotypes for the book A Butterfly Careless make the connection between haiku and haiga (visual haiku). Three elements, the circle, the square, and the line are combined to create a visual poem. Of the twelve images here, four are printed as duotones in A Butterfly Careless.
A review in the Haiku Society of America’s journal Frogpond describes the book as being “One of the most beautiful haiku books to be reproduced in the United States in quite a long time, this volume features the ink monotypes of Dudley Zopp reproduced on high quality paper. A letterpress cover and a one-of-a-kind slipcase with an original monotype on each, it is a book collector’s book, and those who are so inclined will be happy to have this volume as a testament to those arts as manifested in the haiku world.” |
